Pereira flipped Russo 3-0 for the Master 2 absolute

The adults at the Australian Jiu Jitsu Championship finished first. Matstories recorded 1,376 finished adult matches in Melbourne. The kids recap covers Sunday. The preview had the field before anyone fought.

Rankings by wins already favour people who compete a lot. These are the weekends that changed what a matchup means.

Pereira finally got Russo, 3-0

Blake Russo of Carlson Gracie Gold Coast had beaten Danilo Pereira of Arte Suave in six of their seven recorded meetings, all in Master blue-belt no-gi. The most recent one was three weeks ago at QLD States, on points, in the same Master 2 absolute.

They ran it back in Melbourne. Pereira won 3-0, and took the Master 2 no-gi absolute. Russo still won gold in ultra-heavy. Their head-to-head page now has eight results. Pereira is still behind in the series. He had never won the national absolute against Russo until this one.

Pitolau won last year's rematch on advantages

At AJJC 2025, Nick Kemp of DC Australia beat Jared Pitolau of Onya Martial Arts three times in one weekend. Kemp had five recorded wins in the pair coming in. Pitolau had one.

This year they met in the adult blue-belt no-gi absolute. The score finished 0-0. Pitolau won on two advantages, and took gold. Kemp still won gi and no-gi ultra-heavy, including a 3-2 gi final. Their head-to-head page has the year-apart meetings side by side.

Two more people who had been losing the last meeting

Jon Soper-Dyer of Balance BJJ lost to Ben Candy of Spectrum at QLD States in Master 2 purple no-gi light. At AJJC he submitted Candy and took that gold. Candy still won Master 1 purple gi feather. Their head-to-head page has both weekends.

Hamzah Elhami of Sydney Wrestling Academy had two recorded losses to Michael Galea of Alavanca, both by submission. In the adult blue no-gi light-feather final he submitted Galea, and finished the division 3-0, all finishes. Galea still took gi gold in the same weight. Corina Wales of Dominance had lost twice to Morica Tran of Onya at VJJC. She won the Master 1 white no-gi feather final 15-4.

Gold that came down to a point, or less

Erica Jackson of Arruda BJJ and Sayori Tsugawa of Grappling Bros / GFTeam finished 6-6 in Master 3 purple gi light. Jackson won on one advantage, and took gold. Shah Gill of Immersion MMA won adult blue no-gi light 6-5 against Ariel Parker of Maroccolo Academy. Ruby Bradford of Absolute MMA won adult blue no-gi middle 2-2 on an advantage against Sara-Louise Marandola of Garra.

Travis Morgan of SJJA Team went 8-0 at QLD States. In Melbourne he won purple gi light 4-2, then lost the gi absolute 2-2 on advantages to Justin Robertson of Dominance. Ashton Haley of Will Machado took white-belt gi super-heavy gold 5-4 against Thomas Veart of Gracie Barra Menai. Points here are how those fights ended, not a ranking.

A 25-0 run ended 5-2, and a 20-0 run did not

Taran Vance of Peninsula MMA came in 25-0 on Matstories at blue. Max Wolfson of Garage Jiu-Jitsu beat him 5-2 in the adult gi super-heavy final. Vance took silver. Wolfson also won no-gi super-heavy. Same belt, same weight. That is the kind of result the preview was for.

Greer Mason of Lemos BJJ came in 20-0 and left 23-0. She finished all three matches and won Master 2 blue gi light plus the absolute. Zak Angelevski of Sydney Wrestling Academy came in 21-0 at brown, submitted both opponents in no-gi super-heavy, and took gold. Those records are still incomplete older coverage, not an official ranking.

Eight recorded losses, then 12-0

Winston Marani of Will Machado had eight recorded matches on Matstories coming in, all losses. In adult blue gi roosterweight he scored 12-0 against James Lam, then took silver. That is a first recorded win, not a claim that he had never won anywhere else.

Laura Graham of Studio 55 had her first recorded event at QLD States and went 8-0. Three weeks later she made four national podiums: silver in no-gi heavy and both white-belt absolutes, plus bronze in gi heavy. The field was harder. She still left with four medals.
