Terms of Use

These Terms are a legally binding agreement between you and the operator of Matstories. They apply to the website, associated pages, share images, search results, rankings, blog posts and any other Matstories content you access.

You must be able to form a contract under Australian law. If you are under 18, you may browse the website only with a parent or guardian's permission, and that adult is responsible for your use.

Being named in a competition record does not, by itself, make a person a party to these Terms. People identified in records have the rights described in the Privacy Policy, including the right to request correction or removal.

Matstories is a free, independent information service that indexes publicly available Australian grappling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition information. The service may display athlete names, academies, belts, event registrations, divisions, opponents, match outcomes, methods and placements, together with statistics, insights, share cards and editorial commentary derived from those records.

Matstories is not a competition organiser, governing body, ranking authority, federation, academy, event registration platform or official results service. Matstories is not affiliated with, sponsored by, approved by, licensed by or endorsed by any registration platform, federation, academy, athlete or event organiser. Third-party names, logos and trade marks belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify the relevant source or subject.

Nothing on the website creates a partnership, agency, joint venture, employment or fiduciary relationship with you, a source platform, an organiser or any other person.

Information is compiled from public competition pages and records made available by third parties, including event organisers and public registration listings. Matstories may normalise names, link records that appear to concern the same athlete, calculate totals, generate insights and present the information in a different format.

Source platforms and organisers have their own terms, privacy policies and access rules. Matstories is not a party to those contracts. Display of a public competition fact on Matstories does not mean Matstories has a licence from the source platform, and it does not mean the source platform has approved the display.

Public availability does not make a record complete, current or error-free. Source pages may change, contain errors, omit results or identify different people by the same or similar name. Matstories does not independently verify every result, identity, belt, academy or age class.

The website is provided for general information, community discovery and editorial coverage only. It must not be treated as an official sporting record, eligibility determination, selection decision, safety assessment, background check, evidence of identity, or legal, medical, financial or professional advice.

Rankings, win totals, insights, badges and comparisons are Matstories calculations from incomplete public records. They are not official rankings and they are not a skill rating. Coverage is limited to Australian events Matstories has indexed and may omit events, matches or people.

Before relying on information for any material decision, verify it with the relevant athlete, event organiser, federation or original source. You remain responsible for how you interpret and use the information.

Subject to these Terms, Matstories grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the website for lawful personal, journalistic, research or non-commercial purposes.

You may:

• browse, search and link to publicly available Matstories pages;
• share individual pages or share images through ordinary social or messaging tools;
• quote limited portions, provided you identify Matstories as the source of the presentation and do not suggest that Matstories verifies, sponsors or endorses your use; and
• print or save a reasonable number of pages for personal reference.

No other licence is granted. Any use of third-party material remains subject to the rights of the relevant third party. These Terms do not authorise you to scrape source platforms, and they do not transfer any right Matstories does not itself hold.

You must not use the website or its data to:

• break any law, court order, regulatory requirement or third-party right;
• harass, threaten, shame, discriminate against, stalk, dox or otherwise harm an athlete or another person;
• make eligibility, employment, insurance, credit, housing, immigration or other high-impact decisions about a person;
• identify, contact, target, profile, locate or exploit a child or young person;
• misrepresent a record, impersonate another person or falsely claim affiliation with Matstories;
• sell, license, rent, republish or create a competing bulk database from a substantial part of the website;
• copy, scrape, crawl, harvest, mine or systematically download Matstories content except through ordinary browsing;
• query the service at a volume or rate that degrades availability, or bypass rate limits, robots rules or access controls;
• use Matstories content to train, fine-tune or evaluate a machine-learning or AI model without prior written consent;
• frame, mirror or present the website so as to suggest it is your service or an official source;
• probe, interfere with or compromise the website, database, infrastructure or security controls; or
• introduce malware, automate abusive requests, or help another person do any prohibited act.

Matstories owns or licenses the website software, visual design, original copy, selection, arrangement and presentation of the index, derived calculations, insights and editorial content, except for third-party material and facts that cannot be owned. These Terms do not transfer any intellectual property right to you.

Competition results, names and other facts published by third parties may remain subject to the rights of those third parties, including copyright, database rights and trade mark rights. Matstories does not claim ownership of those underlying facts or of third-party trade marks.

Organiser, federation, event, platform and academy names are used only to identify the relevant source or subject. Their use does not imply affiliation, sponsorship, licence or endorsement.

If you believe Matstories is publishing material that infringes your copyright, trade mark or other intellectual property right, send a notice to matstories@proton.me that includes:

• your name and contact details;
• a description of the right claimed and the material said to infringe it;
• the Matstories URL or a clear description of where the material appears;
• a statement that you are the rights holder or are authorised to act for the rights holder; and
• a statement that the information in the notice is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

Matstories may remove, suppress, relabel or disable access to material while a claim is assessed. Doing so is not an admission of liability, infringement or wrongdoing. Matstories may restore material if a claim is withdrawn, incomplete, or appears unfounded.

Use of the website is also governed by the Privacy Policy. Athlete and competition information displayed by Matstories is published as a public index and may be indexed, cached, quoted, screenshot or archived by search engines and other third parties outside Matstories' control.

Do not post or send Matstories confidential information, login credentials, payment details or private contact details of another person.

An athlete, parent, guardian, academy or organiser may ask Matstories to correct, contextualise, suppress or remove a record. Matstories will consider requests as described in the Privacy Policy. Matstories may ask for information reasonably needed to verify identity and authority.

Matstories may correct, add a note, suppress a page, delay publication or remove material to protect people, reduce legal risk, or respond to a complaint. Taking that action is not an admission that the original publication was unlawful, inaccurate or unfair.

Matstories is not a service for children to create accounts. Public source pages sometimes include youth and children's division results, and Matstories may currently index those records.

You must not use youth records to identify, contact, locate, target, profile, shame or exploit a child. A parent or guardian may request suppression or removal of a child's record. Matstories may give those requests priority and may suppress youth records even without a formal legal demand.

The website relies on third-party infrastructure and may link to external websites, including source platforms, event pages and social networks. Matstories does not control third-party availability, security, content, privacy practices or terms. A link is provided for convenience and does not amount to endorsement. You access third-party services at your own risk.

Visitors may choose to support Matstories through its external Buy Me a Coffee page. Contributions are voluntary, are not payments for competition records, licences, takedown outcomes or additional rights, and do not affect rankings, records, listings or editorial decisions. They are not represented as tax-deductible charitable donations. Buy Me a Coffee and its payment providers handle the transaction under their own terms.

Matstories may correct, add, remove, reclassify, suppress or stop publishing records, features or pages at any time. Matstories may apply technical restrictions, rate limits, geographic or IP blocks, suspend access, or discontinue all or part of the service to protect people, data, legal rights, security or service availability.

No continuous, uninterrupted or permanent availability is promised. Maintenance, provider outages, source changes, legal demands, security events and other circumstances may interrupt, delay or permanently end the service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies a guarantee, right, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including any applicable rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Any exclusion or limitation in these Terms applies only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Subject to the non-excludable rights above, the website and all content are provided “as is” and “as available”. Matstories does not warrant that information is accurate, complete, current, suitable for a particular purpose, free from harmful components, or continuously available.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Matstories excludes implied warranties and is not responsible for errors in source records, mistaken identity, delayed updates, omitted events, third-party conduct, search-engine copies, social-media republication, or decisions made in reliance on website content.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Matstories and its operator, contributors and suppliers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary or consequential loss, loss of opportunity, loss of reputation, loss of data, or loss arising from reliance on a public competition record, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), statute or otherwise.

Where liability cannot be excluded but may lawfully be limited, Matstories' aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the website or these Terms is limited, at Matstories' option, to supplying the relevant service again or paying the reasonable cost of having the service supplied again. If that limitation is not available, liability is limited to AUD $100. This limitation does not apply where the law prohibits it.

You are responsible for loss reasonably caused by your unlawful use of the website, deliberate misuse of personal information, infringement of third-party rights, security interference, or material breach of these Terms. This clause does not require you to compensate Matstories for loss caused by Matstories' own negligence, unlawful conduct or breach.

Legal notices, complaints, takedown requests and privacy requests must be sent to matstories@proton.me. Matstories may treat a notice as received when it is accessible in that inbox. Matstories does not currently publish a telephone number or postal address.

Matstories may give you notice by publishing an updated version of these Terms on this page, or by another method reasonably likely to come to your attention.

Matstories may update these Terms to reflect changes to the service, law, risks or providers. Changes apply prospectively from the updated effective date shown above. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the website.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. You and Matstories submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland and courts entitled to hear appeals from them. Mandatory laws in another jurisdiction continue to apply where they cannot lawfully be displaced.

If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, it is read down to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions continue. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. A waiver must be in writing to be effective, and applies only to the specific instance.

Matstories may assign or transfer its rights and obligations under these Terms. You may not assign your rights without Matstories' prior written consent. These Terms bind and benefit permitted successors and assigns.

These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement governing use of the website and replace any earlier understandings about that use. Clauses that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits, governing law and this clause) survive termination or discontinuation of the website.
